For everyone to read about substrate!

Hello. As you can see by my signature i own uromastyx. A few weeks ago i changed their substrate from sand to a topsoil/vermiculate/sand. This gets so compacted that it is barely loose at all. I asked the man who came up with this mix, Robyn from pro exotics and he said it would work great. It is diggable and works really well. It is a 50/25/25 mix with water. It works great let me tell you. I was just curious to see your opinions on it. It sounds perfect for leopard geckos seriously! I was just asking your opinions i do not feel it is at a high impact risk since it gets compacted so much, plus it is more natural.
Well let me know i will post my opinions/answers when i get responses!

Lauren,
I have also switched my uros over to the mix and they love it. I have also put a trio of leos in a 96 quart sterilite with the same mix, but not as deep as the uros. It's about 14" deep of substrate. They have dug out a burrow and they all share it. It is about 7" deep. I just have to try and keep it moist, or I think it will colapse. I use the heat mat taped to the side method that Robyn suggests for uros. Although I think it is cool to watch the natural behaviors of this group, I can't keep my entire colony like this. I'd say give it a try.
