I'd like to add goldfish to my guy's diet; he eats crickets, meal worms, an ocassional pinkie just fine, but won't touch live goldfish. Thank you for your time.

goldfish are fine but then you've got to worry about samonella problems...just be careful...the easist way it to start tossing crickets in the water area...if he goes for the swimming crickets most likely he'll eat fish too. Just add the fish to the water areas of his cage. My basilisks love feeder fish...I would only do this as a treat though.

Thanks, Chris, I'll give it a try. I once had a Nile Monitor who tore them up w/relish! Hope this guy goes for them as an ocassional treat.

John
I wouldn't leave the fish in the water if he doesn't eat it right away, beacause the fish is going to poop in the water and eventually it will become stagnent. I'd take the fish out after 10 or 15 minutes if he hasn't shown interest by then. It should work anyway though...have fun!

If your dragon is anything like mine, he will eat anyting that moves that will fit in his mouth. Dragon (that's his name) ate a few rosy red minnows before... I just dropped a fish in the tank & let it flop around & he noticed it right away & ran over & ate it. Then for another one I held a fish in the palm of my hand & held it up to him & he saw it moving & ate it right out of my hand. I don't think captive dragons are quick enough to grab it out of the water.
I also heard that too much fish can be bad for their eyes. However, they apparently have a lot of calcium. Now I give Dragon a fish or two about once a month just for some variety in his diet.

Thanks for your response--that was helpful! Mine has taken everything else I've offered except goldfish, but I hadn't tried dropping them in front of him; I'll give it a try.
