can I feed small, benign spiders to my anoles?

lele Dec 05, 2003 06:57 PM

My anoles are tiring of crix and I don't think they are eating enough. I ordered some fly pupae (which should be fun as they emerge!) but as I got out of the shower tonight I began thinking about the spiders that have set up house in the bathroom. Normally I wouldn't use them as feeders (I have had some as pets) but these are the harvestman spider - sort of like a small daddy-long legs. They wouldn't make much of a meal but all they do here in the winter is give me cobwebs and die as there is no food for them in the winter (in the spring, summer and fall I happily let them eat whatever they want!

Any reason not to offer them to my anoles??
thanks!

Yeah, you can. IF they aren't poisionus. Sure, go for it. One anoles diet is composed of 90 percent spiders.
