If you called whoever the Canadian authorities are, it would be less likely to happen again.
Let them go see for themselves. Make a list of what they need to look for. bad temps, filth, tail nips, etc.

I know exactly what you mean. There's a pet store in my area & the lady there neglects all her animals. Her BDs are sick, way too skinny with sunken eyes. No heat supply, no UVB, no water, no veggies, and crickets bigger than the beardies head. Her mite infested snakes have mouth rot and sores on their bodies where mice have been thrown in, left unattended, and the mice had bitten her snakes.Crap all over and no clean water. Her iguanas had snake & lizard mites on them telling me they were put in an already dirty infested tank. Food moldy & crapped on. Water crapped in. A container full of dead tree frogs, and I couldn't even see her Oscar fish because the water was so nasty. Her ferrets were covered in their own feces because their cage was so nasty.
I contacted our Animal Control and pretty much got cussed out myself. Our Animal Control Officer just happens to be best friends with this pet store owner. I even tried talking to her boss, but to no avail. People like this should be put out of business. These animals are nothing but a quick dollar to them and they don't care about the health & well-being of the animals. They only hope they can get some money out of it before it dies. Once it's sold, they couldn't care less if it died and left someone broken-hearted.

Petco is the same way. They have 12 beardies in what is equivilent to a 10 gallon and 2 in a probably 30 gallon TALL! It's awful!

The Better Business Bureau has an online site. They can't really do anything either, but if you file a complaint with them (you can do it online), she will be sent a letter and the complaint will forever be there if anyone should look it up.
It worked for me in one instance. The owners don't want those kind of black marks by their names since some people do check with the BBB before buying.

I don't know where you're from but there has to be more that can be done regarding the horrible situations you described and the lack of responsible actions taken by your local animal control. Here is a link that may be of some help to get more done to help stop this hell hole you have described.

ASPCA

If you want help pursuing this I am more than willing to do so. If it's as bad as you say I bet your state can step in and help.

I live in Catawba County, NC and I've went as far as I could take it in this area with officials. Everyone keeps sending me back to Rhonda Webster who is in charge of the animal control issues. She's actually employed through the Newton Police Dept. and like I said, she's best friends with the lady that owns the pet store. They've even threatened to get me for slander if I didn't let up. But anyone can plainly see that her reptiles are badly neglected.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

to sneak in there and descreetly shoot some photos? I would think that would be enough proof to even go as far as writing your local newspaper.

Please keep us posted.

Whatever you do, I wouldn't buy them.. you'd only be helping their business and sending the wrong message to them (while lining their pockets w/undeserved cash).
