Getting worried

mike3 Dec 05, 2003 10:26 PM

I am buying two females form Mark Walsh. I sent him the money on tuesday morning and emailed him wednesday and never got a reply. So i thought he got the money and would ship them by friday, well it is friday night and no uros. I emailed him again. He is not responding to my emails and has not shipped the uros left. Do you think Mark Walsh is to occupied to check his email, or do you think he too my money and ran. I know he probably just didn't have time to ship them or something like that, but i am starting to get worried. Moroccan uros arent cheap and when you pay that much money and the person doens't ship them to you or respond to your emails wouldn't you guys also get a little worried. What do you guys think i should do?

people who dont research the breeders/dealers who they are about to give there hard-earned cash to.This isnt directed at anyone, its just an observation of late, alot of people have been defrauded this way and it seems silly to me that no-one thinks to ask around a bit-especially with internet dealers. You my friend seem to have been lucky i the fact others are vouching for him and that you will get your reptiles, others have not been so lucky. Its all too easy to biuld a website and claim to have this that and the next thing for sale and suddenly bam there getting e-mails left right and centre about things they dont own.Again this is an observation across several forums.Take care and show us some pics when they arrive.

he emailed me today telling me he got the money on Friday, and because of that he couldn't ship them. So he is going to ship them on monday so i will get them on tuesday or wednesday. Since they are CB do i have to quarantine them, or could i just introduce them to my guys. Also, they have been in brumation for 2 weeks now, and my guys have been out of brumation for 3 weeks. What should i do about that? Should i take them out of brumation, or should i keep them in it. What would be healthier for them.

I would quarantine them. It's the safest thing to do. You could probably cut down the quarantine to 4 weeks seeing as they come from a reputable source however. Did you plan on putting them all in the same cage? I think that's asking for trouble personally. A la Deer Fern Farms:

"Uromastyx generally have a low tolerance for cohabitating with other Uromastyx. Under most circumstances, two mature males may not be kept together! Sooner or later one will attack the other, possibly causing serious injury. While females of most species are more variable in this regard, many females also are intolerant of same-sex housing (Mali's and Ornates are occasional but not reliable exceptions). Many Uromastyx will tolerate being housed with a member of the opposite sex, but exceptions exist even here (note: Moroccans and Orange benti in particular tend to be common exceptions to this rule). Females of all species tend to become very belligerent towards all other Uros, male or female, once they are bred and begin preparing a nesting site."

Hope all goes well with them. Send us some pictures when you get the chance!

Think of it this way: If he got the money by mid week, do you think he'd take a chance shipping then? Most breeders wait till monday to ship to ensure the animal will get their ASAP without spending extra time held up in a post office somewhere over the weekend.

It's the smart thing to do, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I don't know anyone who will ship after wednesday morning. Usually their websites say something about that.

Hope this eases your mind a bit...
