121 YEAR OLD AUSTRALIAN WATER DRAGON

wbrown Dec 05, 2003 11:12 PM

I thought the members of this forum would enjoy seeing a bit of water dragon history. You are looking at a low-res scan of an authentic 121 year old print, created in Australia in 1882. It depicts a "Gippsland water lizard" (Australian water dragon). The Latin name Physignathus lesueri is used in the description. It is far more detailed than what can be discerned on a computer monitor (the protective watermark is certainly not on the original print). The print accompanied a scientific journal that gave descriptions of all animal life in the area of Australia known as Victoria. Fortunately, a number of interesting species occur there resulting in beautiful artwork like the print below. Hope you enjoyed seeing it.
