120 YEAR OLD SNAKE-NECK TURTLE

I thought the members of this forum would enjoy seeing a bit of chelonian history. You are looking at a low-res scan of two authentic 120 year old prints, created in Australia in 1883. They depict a "long-Necked River Tortoise". The Latin name Chelodina longicollis is used in the description. They are far more detailed than what can be discerned on a computer monitor (the protective watermark is certainly not on the original prints). The prints accompanied a scientific journal that gave descriptions of all animal life in the area of Australia known as Victoria. Fortunately, a number of interesting species occur there resulting in beautiful artwork like the prints below. Hope you enjoyed seeing them.
