Frills in the family

lazandlouie Dec 06, 2003 12:16 AM

I just wanted to make sure, so i'll ask, if a frilled dragon breeds with a member of its family, what are the consequences? I'm not trying this, but a guy at a petstore is trying to sell me 2 frills that may possibly be brother and sister (he says they're not), but if there is bad reprecussions, I wont get them. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thank YOu everyone!!

I would highly recommend against sibling inbreeding. Especially with frilled dragons. There are enough frilled dragons available on the market that there is no need to inbreed them. There may not be any visable genetic defects in the first breeding, but certainly you will produce healthier, more diverse babies from breeding unrelated frilleds. It is also important for the market at large. There are so few people breeding frilled dragons that it would be a shame to be putting out genetically weaker cb babies when you could be producing strong, unrelated babies.

Thanks. I was just wondering. I'll just get one off the classifieds on kingsnake. Do you know if it matters to breed different frilleds together like new guinea and australian? Is there a way i can find out what mine is, if it matters. Thank You!!
