My baby beardie is sick. I took it to the vet but he didnt have a clue. He is about 5-6 weeks old. 3 days ago his left arm turned kinda greyish to the elbow and he lost funtion. Yesterday he was useing it a little. Then today the grey color spred up to the shoulder and it is just limp. Plus now its in his right arm up to the elbow. The little guy is eatig but is somewhat lethargic. Any ideas as to what it could be, whats causing it, or what to do?

Thanks,

You really need to find a veterinarian that works with reptiles. Check out www.arav.org for a herp vet in your area.

I don't know squat about what could be causing it but if I had to take a shot in the dark the first thing that comes to mind is maybe something has been swelling up.

Is he getting UVB and plenty of calcium supplement? I think I've heard swelling of the joints can be caused by calcium deficiency. Like I said, though, these are pure guesses.

There are a few people here who are experts on dragons that will probably be able to shed some light on this for you, but if he's not getting UVB and calcium get him started on it ASAP.

That would be my first thing to check. Other things can be inflamation for muscular problems, septic blood.. the list can go on... but there should be some other symptoms beside just the off color and limping. Do you see any affected scales? Especially around the join area or just above/below it?

How long have you had him?
Is he in with any other dragons?
IS he getting UVB and supplements?

Does he have any discolorations on his belly area or head?

No discoloration on head or belly. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. The arms are still dicolored today, but it is starting to use them again a bit. We've had UV on it and the temps are right. Hopefully it'll just pass.

Did you double-check his shedding? Mine nearly lost part of his tail as a result of constriction after a shed. I had to soak his tail in warm water, then pop the scales around the skin area. He didn't take to that at all well, and I had to cover his head with a towel to keep him from freaking out and biting someone. Once I worked the scales off around the skin border, I was able to peel the rest off. His tail was a little discolored for awhile, but healed pretty quickly afterwards. If this happened after a recent shed, I would guess that this might be the problem. Take him to a vet if you can and get him thoroughly checked out. If you don't he might lose that arm.
