Redone imitator tank

kyle1745 Dec 06, 2003 09:32 AM

Ok here is my imitator tank after redoing it. I might add a couple more broms.

All the broms are from CUSTOM ECOS Alex is great to work with and has great plants and great prices.

You can see my new light, and I will take some more pictures of the light when I get a chance. Like I said in some past posts WOW, compacts put out a TON of light. I can say the imitators love the broms and I have seen them more in the last couple days than in the last couple months. Now the constant calling all night from my male, might be cause for a move to another room. I think he called all night last night.

I have also posted updated pictures of all of my tanks after a little growing and some changes you can see them below on my photo site.

Your tank looks great! But, I had one of the plants like the one you have on the left side, and I had to remove it after a few months because it started to rot.

Its been in there a good amount of time and is doing great, no rootin yet. That is one of the original plants, but most of the rest are new.

Hey,

The tank looks great. Can you give some details on your waterfall down the cork? Im planning to something like that,

ie- where did you put the pump, gph, etc.

Thanks,
M.N

Sure, the pump is in the lower left under the gravel. In this case it is just in the gravel since it is larger gravel. There is a tube that runs behind the cork. I drilled a hole for the tube and then siliconed it in place.

The pump I use is a very small in house fountain pump. I get them at the local store for about $10. They have worked great, but that is about as high as they will pump. I have heard good things about the small rio pumps also, but I have not tried them.

Is that moss you have growing on the cork? If so, what kind?

It just started growing, so my guess is shagnum (spelling), from what I stuffed in the cracks. I'm kind of hoping it starts to grown more with the added light.

awesome. You know, I have noticed that some of my sphagnum has started to turn green....I thought it was just absorbing it though.

Good to see another CF convert. I know some people who have beautiful tanks with just regular fluorescents, but CF's are great. Ive gotten more growth and color out of my plants than I would have ever believed, without having to hang multiple large fixtures over my tanks. Pretty much impossible for the majority since I use a rack....CF's saved many a plant (= money) for me.

Yea I can see now why people rave about them. They put out a ton of light. Too bad they are a bit $$$.

Kyle,
Good work on the 15.I have noticed that some of the sphagnum moss I used to root some orchids in my bicolors tank has started to turn green but I think it is more from algae growth.I have a 55watt cf kit over their tank.I have had some of my broms for over a year and really don't have to buy any for my other tanks, the lights make them produce pups alot.Hope your all night calling male imitator has a female in there with it,good luck.

I hope I get some pups, would be cool to add some more broms for free.

Just a tip, but home depot has cf "security lights" made by lights of america for $29. I love em. Not as adaptable as some other arrangements, but they work very well.

kyle1745 Dec 07, 2003 07:39 AM

I looked at those when I was picking up some wire clamps for the light I made. Are you using them?
