cf lighting.....long

I know this topic has been explored many times and i researched the archives but i still have a couple of questions. I am always at work when AH supply is open so i cannot call them to ask any questions and they have not returned my email yet.

Ok i have maintain my system for about 2 years. it's 4 ft high, (about 50 gallons) and right now i have a 24" combo hood with repti 2.0, a 60w day glo and 75w red night heat spot. My temps are steady and perfect the humidity is great and frankly plant growth is totally satisfactory with the exception of the lileopsis in the water and some of the species of broms i have tried to keep. My endler's are even breeding! I am considering switching to CFs. but i am fearful it may throw everything off. The reasons i am considering this is for energy efficiency and more blue light for the water plants. Should i not fix what is not broken? Will the considerable increase in light have a negative affect on the frogs that have been in there for 18 months? Being that i have no added ventilation in the tank, no fans or anything i am worried about all the variables being thrown off and everything crashing including the frogs, which is obviously the most important. am i being a worry wort? also what about night heat if I am using CFs? do they make red CFs? I guess what i am asking is if everything is cool in the tank and I am satisfied with the plant growth and the frogs are healthy would there be any benefits to switching over to CFs? and what about maybe only adding a 50/50 CF instead of the 60w day glo in the combo hood? would that give a nice little boost without too much change? I do respect the opinion of many of the frequenters on this forum and I appreciate any consideration in answering this long and painful post. Thanks in advance.
sincerely

I can not speak for a tank that large, but I can tell you after a little work to raise my CF light it was fine and did not put off any more heat than the light I had before. I guess my point is with a little work you can make it work.

I can say that I have repti glow 2.0 bulbs and 1 13 watt compact puts off a ton more light.

You could build a hood with 4 larger compacts in it and it would be a ton of light, but like I said you may need to raise it off the top a bit or use a fan to cool it. It all depends on your situation. I raised mine 3/4 of an inch and it is vented at the top, and it only raises my tank temp 1 degree higher than before.
