michiel1981 Dec 06, 2003 10:55 AM

I put my new brazilian rainbow boas in my feeding tank and i put some pinkys in it and the female boa ate them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wtf
She actually striked at the male when he wanted to eat 1 and i couldnt stick my hand in to get her out cuz she would of attacked me also (not that im scared of a 4 month old snake but i am afraid i can damage her teeth when she bites in my finger.
I only have an adult mouse left.... is it possible to feed an adult mouse to a 4 month old brazilian boa? i think the mouse is around 3 times thicker then the boa heh

Pinkies are really small for a BRB to eat, no wonder she ate them all. Give the male the adult mouse in a separate cage and see if he'll eat it.

why would i want to switch to frozen or killed....
I love to see them kill =)
I know mice might hurt my snakes, but i stay with them till they kill the prey and so far they kill it on sight.... 1 strike and dead after 20 sec heh.

You love to see them kill huh? Just tell me how you will feel if one of those mice bites the snake and he winds up with a bacterial infection so bad he dies?
I have seen snakes grab the mouse the wrong way, the mouse can turn around and bite the snake. Maybe it doesn't kill them right away, but the infection that can follow can be severe. Rodents carry a ton of bacteria in their mouth's. The worst bite I have ever had was from a rodent and my boss wound up in the ICU for 6 days because of an infection from a rat bite.
Live rats and mice don't have to kill the snake right then and there for damage to be done. You are obviously not comfortable enough handling your snakes to be brave enough to stick your hand in the coils of a snake to help him should the mouse start biting. My advice is to take a good long look at what you think being a RESPONSIBLE snake owner is.
Yes, I might sound harsh, but I have seen too many snakes hurt or killed from people who like to watch them kill.

The welfare of your snake should come before your joy of seeing them kill - they kill FT/PK the same as live.

I agree with Lora on this one. Feed them one at a time or in different places. If 2 snakes grab and constrict each other you may not even have one snake to feed next time.

Michiel,
. You seem to be making quite a few mistakes. So far you have been lucky that you have not injured your BRBs. If you had done any research before buying your BRBs you would have known they are nocturnal snakes and that using a light on or in their cages is a mistake. You would have also learned that they have specific temperature and humidity requirements and that you should have a cage set up so that you can check the temperature and humidity before you get the snake. BTW, if you have a light inside the cage it is probably hot enough to burn the snake. You were lucky that they both did not try to eat the same mouse when you were feeding them together. Little BRBs can and will eat each other if they are both trying to swallow the same meal. You also should not have a snake out of it's cage for a day or two after eating a large meal. If the snake gets stressed it will puke the meal up. Many of us feed live mice to snakes occasionally but if you put a large enough mouse in with a small snake it can seriously injure the snake. BRBs are really pretty easy to keep and they are hardy snakes but if you make the wrong mistake you can kill them.

How am i going to heat the entire tank with a light...?
And i know i dont touch em for 2-3 days after feeding, but i had to get it out of the tank i use for feeding and put in his normal tank...
humidity is around 80%
And yea putting both of them in the feeding tank may of been a little mistake.
But speaking of the light im doing the same things the breeder of the brb did.....

First off, don't argue, switch to f/t mice, for many reasons...freezing rodents helps kill most of the bacteria they carry, and can transmit to your brbs...second, if you are keeping snakes solely because you "like to see them kill", then you are keeping them for the wrong reason. You aren't going to make many friends around here talking like that... Do a little research, there is plenty of stuff on the net pertaining to brb's and snakes in general, like Jeff said brb's are very hardy creatures, but it only takes a bit of negligence to kill em...

I fifthteenth what everyone else said. Ft/pk is definately healthier for the snake. I have one that i've never been able to ween off of live but hes watched VERY carefully and I always have a ruler or something to make sure the animals head stays away from him while hes killing it. You have enough to worry about when the snake is eating anyways. I had to delatch one of my BRB's from herself after she sucked down the mouse and kept sucking onto her side.

The guy i bought my brazilian rainbows from who bought 14 of them from someone in belgium feed them only 1 pinky a week while they were 4 month old, my female boa just got her first young mouse today =) The funny thing it took her 20 min to figure out how to eat it haha.
She started with the mouse behind first then realized that wasnt going to work then she crawled around it for a few min and finally figured out she had to start with the head and then suprisingly swallowed it in less then 3 minutes.
