Looking for first ball python

lastdoctor Dec 06, 2003 11:34 AM

I have been looking around to get my first ball python. After lots of research, I have found that I will more than likely have to order one. As far as is known, there is noone that breeds them in my area. And of course all of the pet stores have the wild ones. I e-mailed aaareptilesupply.com, and they said they have captive bred and ranched ones. Pardon my ignorance here, but what do they mean exactly by "ranched?" Do they mean captive hatched? Thanks,

Jeremy

In my experience CB can mean either it was born in the US or more likely it was "ranched" or "farmed" and born in captivity-- that captivity is Africa.

You want to look for CBB or "born in the USA" (or Canada if that's where you are). I know Pro Exotics does only CBB babies now. They seem like very nice and respectable breeders, so you might try them for your first baby.

I'd like to personally thank you for looking for a baby bred for being a pet and not one that was concieved in the wild. All my babies are CBB and I feel like it's a good thing to support captive breeding rather than taking them from the wild. Just my opinion, but I feel so good making a good home for a snake who has been carefully bred and cared for by someone who cares! Good luck!
