A story on shipping

asia2003 Dec 06, 2003 12:58 PM

Hi All,

I am a member of both the tortoise, and tegu forum here at kingsnake, and I just had to share this story with you, it is unrelated to tortoises, but as reptiles are shipped all over the USA everyday, I had to mention it. The following message was sent to the tegu forum this morning, I didnt add the picture to this post as I honestly didnt want to look at it again:

"The picture taken is of two beautiful Tegus that were shipped to us via UPS. UPS told us that they were put in an unpressurized cargo hold on the plane and that is why they "exploded". It is so sad that someones carelessness and blatant disregard for life and peoples property could cause so much pain and suffering. Can you even imagine how these innocent critters suffered? "Harmless Live Lizard" and "Fragile Live Lizard" was written all over the box in big bold black marker, so there was no reason for this mistake. I am pushing to have this person fired and hiring a good lawyer, but it still isn't justice for the harm they have done. I apologize for the graphic nature of this picture, however I feel that it is important for people to know how and why this happened and who did it. I am hoping that this picture may save other reptiles' lives."

I told the poor tegu owner that I would post this message to every forum that I could. Sorry if it is graphic, and disturbing, but in a case like this, awareness, and exposure may help.

i'm very sorry for the person who was looking forward to receiving two new comanions and instead opened the box and saw that (yeah, i checked out that image), all because of some disgusting excuse for a so-called "higher animal" was so negligent.

i hope that justice is served in at least some small degree, although nothing can replace lost lives.
