breeding question

rttlrvenom Dec 06, 2003 01:12 PM

hello i dont have a corn snake right now but in january i am getting a few. i really like corns and the color morphs, my favorite is blizzard. im getting hatchlings and in a few years i would like to try and produce a blizzard, once my future corns are of breeding age. my question is it ok to let a female snake incubate her eggs my her self or should i get an incubater.
i have also taken into consideration that there could and will be extra hatchlings which i will try to sell, all of my friends like snakes and they will probably buy them and if not a have to room to keep them until i can find a home for them.

thanx in advance

To produce Blizzard hatchlings, You'll need to start either with blizzard parents, or...
charcoal-het-amel x amel-het-charcoal
Otherwise you could end up having to wait another three years or more to produce blizzards.

my question is it ok to let a female snake incubate her eggs my her self or should i get an incubater.

Get an incubator. Some snakes will sit on their eggs, but most corns I believe will leave them to incubate in the ground, so it's better to use an incubator where you can be sure the temps don't fluctuate too much, and that they don't dry out.

i have also taken into consideration that there could and will be extra hatchlings which i will try to sell, all of my friends like snakes and they will probably buy them and if not a have to room to keep them until i can find a home for them.

I still have 4 of my 03 hatchlings, and haven't really tried to sell them very hard, just because I haven't decided for sure which of the 4 I'm going to keep as future breeders. But they are easy enough to keep, They are in plastic tubs and only take up a small ammount of space. The one thing I didn't really expect to have was non-feeders. Which I did have two, I was able to send them to a friend in FL who has gotten them eating and they are doing great. So read up on all these "my baby wont eat" threads so you'll know what to do should any of your hatchlings decide to be finiky like mine did.

Glad your reading up and planning ahead Good luck! and watch out.......you can never have enough once you have one

their eggs te whole time...she will stay with them from maybe 5 minutes...or until she seds *after a week or so ,post laying).......

they usually always come off the eggs by then and hunt food......

........I pull mine off as fast as possile and try to feed........

if they refuse mice..........I trick them and give them peromyscus mice (white footeds).....they cannot refuse to eat them.........(98% of the time)....

good luck..........

Is that your ball python? I was thinking of trying to breed one of mine this year. I counted ten eggs in that clutch. Isn't that more than usual. I've always read about six per clutch was average. jim

Thanks for the info. My wife and I have been going back and forth on breeding this year or not. Our two oldest females will only be three years old this year. You convinced me. Another year or two of fattening up is in order. Thanks again, Now back to corns. Sorry people. Jim
