they are so different, you want something large? something small? something "tame"? something you will never actually see when properly setup?
i have a feeling you should keep looking for the right species, and not just ones that are currently advertised cheap.

You are the only one who can make the decision as to which monitor, if any, that you would like to have. There are so many species available, and so many differences that you will have to do the research and based on what you find and the condition of your wallet, make your choice. As Robyn said, what do you want in a monitor? Ask yourself that question. I think one of the most important aspects of your research prior to buying is what is the maximum adult size your monitor could reach and can I realistically house and feed him properly. All babies are cute, but a baby monitor grows up to be an adult and many species require huge enclosures and massive amounts of food. I researched monitors before I bought any and decided on the ackies for a first monitor because that is what I can properly care for today. I am enjoying them immensely and the choice for me was the right one. In the future I would like blue tree monitors, but that is a way off for me. If you put a lot of thought into it and do your homework, I'm sure you will find the right monitor for you.

A bosc monitors is a medium sized animal that can take alot of space properly housing, and could be anywhere from a holy terror that lives to chomp fingers or be friendly. The animals all have their own personality, you cannot expect them to be tame by species. The timor is a (pretty) small species that is skittish, scared, jumpy, on average bitey when handled, spends 3/4 of its life hidden, and runs upon your initial approach. After a few years they can calm down and learn to be in the room while you are without hiding.
You asked for something small to medium and tame, so the best description to fill that is ackies...Ackies are awesome, by the way. Ive had timor, ackie, savannahs, etc etc..
