Worms got me worried..

karosenberg Dec 06, 2003 03:07 PM

I have been reading a lot of posts by people with geckos who have worms. Where do worms come from? Can a leo with worms still have normal feces? Does anyone treat their geckos to prevent worms?

Are your leos fat and healthy. They poop ok.? Then don't worry about it.

It's that simple.

If you have geckos that are symptomatic - then get a fecal done and treat them - if not, it's cool.

Worms actually aren't the worst parasite your leos can contract, since they're pretty easy to treat and eliminate. They're a lot more common than you might think, and they only cause symptoms when there's a heavy load of them.

It seems like people assume that if their leo isn't defecating green poo or something, then they're not carrying parasites. I think you have to be used to seeing a healthy leo's poop (which is usually almost black and solidly shaped) to notice if there's anything wrong. Otherwise, if your leo has any parasites and his poop is all you're used to seeing, there's no way for you to ever know that something's wrong. From my experience, sometimes just a slight discoloration in the feces is all the symptom your leo would show.

I'm still trying to figure out where some of my leos got their parasites. Possibly from some of their feeder insects.
