Salvator hatchlings

Checked on some of my eggs this afternoon and found one of my salvator eggs has a large slit and a moving body inside the egg. So, I guess it is hatching time again. Two other eggs have indentations in them. All the eggs are huge and appear ready to burst. 11 of them in all, although one egg may be dead already (it has looked bad for a long time but does not smell bad and did not mold up too badly like most bad eggs. We shall see what happens with that one.

However, I will temper my enthusiasm for the moment. By my estimates, this hatching egg is pre-mature. My first clutch of salvator eggs did not hatch until 197 days. Jalepeño hatched this past September at 187 or so days and was clearly smaller than his siblings had been 1.5 years earlier.

I will recount the days to make sure I did not miscount. However, I think this is about 180 days. We shall see if and when he makes it out of the egg. Pics will be posted as things progress.

As a side note, the eggs laid last week do not look promising for long term development. Already losing some of those: the dirt was too dry for Mushu's tastes and she mostly dumped those eggs.
