A 20 gallon is too small for 4 RE's unless they are sub-adult and under the 2 inch mark. They can be territorial as adults and will need more space so that everyone has their own spot and don't get stressed out by being too close to the others. For 4 adults I'd go with something more in the way of a 50 gallon. Bigger is always better.

Of course, bigger is always better. 50 gallons does sound kinda big though. What is the smallest size enclosure that would be just "acceptable", and not the "best", to house 4 RETFs? a couple of websites stated that 10 gallon per pair would suffice... is there any truth to their claims?
10 gallons per pair is MUCH too small... 10 gallons for 1 is to small.
Basic rule of thumb is 20 gallons for one adult and 10 gallons for each additional tankmate added. So 50 gallons *is* the min. requirement for 4 adult REs.

I don't think it would be a painful stretch to keep 4 in a 40-gallon, but that's the MINIMUM. They don't do better in groups, though, that's ridiculous. Why don't you just get one or two if you want to stay to a smaller enclosure? And what are these webpages you're reading

I think i may have bitten off more than i can chew. And i attribute that to seemingly good websites giving wrong information. One of of which is the Western New York Herpetological Societ. Here are the links to the few websites:
