Hello Lucien,

Here is what I have on V. storri breeding and husbandry to give you an idea on their feasability of good captive results:

BREEDINGS:

Eidenmuller, B. 1994. Herpetofauna 16(88):6-12.

Eidenmuller, B. and H.-G. Horn. 1985. Salamandra 21(1):55-61.

Horn, H.-G. and E. Stirnberg. 1981. An unexpected new generation in a terrarium Varanus storri. Salamandra 17(1/2):55-62.

CAPTIVITY:

Eidenmuller, B. 1993. Monitor (DGHT) 2(2):11-21.

Horn, H.-G. and E. Stirnberg. See above.

Peters, U. 1969. Aquarien Terrarien 16(11):375-377.

Peters, U. 1973. Koolewong 2(4):12-13.

Rese, R. Sauria 8(3):55-56.

Alot of people have worked with this species, and quite good data here-in to begin your information gatherings. Feel free to email me about further details and if you want copies, we can work on that too...

cheers, Happy Holidays!

Now if he had records of say.. 1775 monitor breedings that may be outdated. How many people are currently using Darwin to explain evolution? Who's outdated now?

I actually think that the older sources may be easier to use than current sources, because many of us try to use alot of technology with our animals instead of letting THEM do it.

I don't think its that outdated, and I'm glad he posted sources, If I had some storri I'd be happy to work with him, but I only have an ackie, and a pair of savs.

At least he's got some documentation to look at.

monitor husbandry has come a long way in the past 10 years, it is time that everybody gets on the ball and realizes this.

Hi Oscar,
Actually I have 1 1500 B.C. report for V. griseus breeding from Egypt! Now that is old. Thank you Oscar. I am always glad to share the junk I have here...and if you visit Berkeley, CA, let me know - I'll let you go through it all you want...

andrew,
As for out-dated, none of the info there reports failures, only successes, and if they work for them, they will more than likely work for others too, andrew, or are you unable to comprehend that??

If you have more current breedings for Varanus storri, or other species, please send me a detailed account and I will place it into my files (for V. glauerti??) for others to see and share at later date(s) - I have asked you, and never do, so as far as I am concerned, you've done -0-. Jody P., Dan T., and many others who visit here have shared their breeding reports with me, and they are (or being) filed into my files....I do not care if you share or do not share your material, it is no consequence to me, but if you are here to whine, go back to your own forum...you give me gas andrew, hahahaha...

While I would agree that MOST Ackie care and maintenance Can be applied to Storri, I would definitely discourage that Ackie breeding strategies should ever be considered with Storri. Since his post states he is thinking about a trio, and is interested in breeding I believe the answer is not as simple as one would think. The main difference being that Ackies can generally be kept in groups for breeding without much hassle, but try to do that with a Storri and the outcome might be much different. Now, I am sure that there are people who keep Storri together, but
I could give you a list of names of breeders who have worked with Storri and tried to keep them together only to watch them destroy eachother. When I get my first pair of Storri about 8 years ago, I was devastated to discover that they could not be housed together. One of them tore a limb almost completely off the other! I quickly realized I was in over my head and I donated that pair to a Vet. friend of mine that rehabilitated the animal and bred them successfully for several years. He of course only introduced them during breeding and watched them very carefully. Some of us learn the hard way, I just hope that my experiences can be of some help to others. I now have a pair and I keep tham just as Andrew said, in a 4X2 cage. HOWEVER, I keep them separate! I hope to breed them this coming year. Having said that, I have heard people say they keep thiers together with no real problems, and to those who have, congratulations! But, of all the people I know that have Storri, none of them keep those animals together. They are kept separate until introduced to breed for short periods of time.
