First baby hatched!

mare Jun 02, 2003 03:04 PM

I don't have a slick pic to post, but the first of my hognose eggs hatched this morning! I'm very excited - looks to be a pretty little girl. And Oh So Tiny!

Just wanted to share... I wasn't intending to breed any of my snakes this year but Huggy was sooooo ready, I relented and put Elmo in with her. I used a makeshift incubator with variable temps averaging around 80 degrees. I am anxious to see how many actually hatch... of the 10 eggs in the first clutch, 4 went bad over time. She laid a second clutch 2 weeks ago, another 7 eggs, and of those, it appears that 3 were slugs... but the remaining 4 look good as well.

Fingers crossed for more of these little treasures!

Congrats. I seem to remember seeing your post that they bred. Glad they turned out. I would like to breed my easterns next year...hogs sure are some of the cutest young snakes you could ever hope to see. Let us know about the others. Andy

Well, there were two more adorable little noses poking out of eggs last night when I got home. They were still just peeking out this morning but I expect by this evening they'll be out and about. I will now proceed to worry about the other 3 eggs due to hatch, and then move on to worrying about them eating and growing. I had no idea that this would be so stressful! LOL!
