do painted turtles need uv light???n/p

They don't need uv light as much as they need UVB lighting. A uv bulb will cost about 10$ but isnt really needed that much. What you need to get is a UVB bulb which is anywhere from 25$ to $45.

Keep in mind that UVB bulbs are no good after 6 months. Even if the light still works its not producing any UVB rays so its pointless to have after 6 months

My sister purchased a Painted Turtle from a pet store in December for her daughter. He was very dull in color at the time. I brought her over one of my extra UVB bulbs. Within two months you could see an extreme difference in his color. His stripes on his neck went from an extremely pale yellow (almost gray) to vibrant yellow. He's also been much more active and alert.

either natural sunlight which is NOT filtered though any glass or plastic (no windows, fishtank lids box tops etc)
or a good UVB light source.
