humid hide substrate...

jananicole66 Dec 07, 2003 07:36 AM

Hey, I just was wondering, since i dont think anyone's asked it, are cotton balls acceptable humid hide substrate? I currently have paper towels, since my leo is just a little baby(maybe 3 inches) and it just kind of popped into my head to ask if cotton balls were okay for a humid hide.. incase anyone else is wondering as well

Cotton balls would probably get caught in their little toenails and possibly ingested. I've never heard of anyone using it, but I can imagine the trouble you'd have getting it untangled from your gecko's feet. Paper towels, sphagnum moss (dirtlike, not green grasslike), and bed-a-beast/ground coconut husk all work great. You can find sphagnum moss at your local garden supply store and bed-a-beast at the local pet store, it comes in compressed blocks you add water to.

Good luck

Yea I was thinking it may cause problems... don't worry, I dont use it, I just found it odd that no new gecko owners ever asked about it
