Help with mites please

Langi Dec 07, 2003 07:42 AM

I was cleaning my geckos' tank because he has mites and I was told to just spray the mite spray all over the inside of the tank and then let it dry before Iput the gecko back in but there is a kind of stick residue all over the tank from the spray. Should I rinse it out?

What are you using for mite spray? I've used a couple different treatments and have had the best experience with Black Knight. With Black Knight you wouldn't want to rinse the treatment out of the cage because the mites and eggs that will reinfest your snake are hidden in the crevices of the cage. I agree that you should let any treatment dry/air out prior to having your snakes on it. I recently treated 10 snakes in a rack system with Black Knight spray and observed no ill effects. I didn't directly spray the snakes, but did treat their cages pretty thouroughly. Direct, prolonged exposure to the poisons in the mite spray could cause health problems for your snake.
