One of the authors of the Rhac book has large naturalistic vivaria set up with mixed species in it. I know he keeps cresteds with gargoyles. He also mentions cages with pink-tongue skinks and cresteds kept together without problems. In the case of the tortoise and the crested gecko kept togerther, I can't see where it would be dangerous for either species. The problem in that case is that the tortoise has high temp requirements. I'm not at all against mixing species in the right set up, but this case sounds a little odd. Who knows, maybe it works for them.
