Anyone had good luck by recyling boas?

East TN Reptile Dec 07, 2003 08:43 AM

I've got a proven female. She hasn't breed for the past two years. I introduced different male prior to cycling..nothing. I cycled all my adults and reintroduced multiple times.....nothing. I even pulled a male that was breeding another female & placed him with her....nothing. She just doesn't seem receptive!
Has anyone had this problem? I put my adults through a low cycle (again)hoping my female will become receptive. Anyone ever done this with any luck? Thanks for ANY replies or opinions.

Maybe it is not accurate saying the female is not receptive. It seems that your males are saying she is not in condition to breed, since you say the do not even attempt to copulate.

We have best luck planning for breeding a long time in advance and bringing the feeding schedule and temperature cycle together at the right time. This seems to give a better chance that successful breeding will occur. I wouldn't have any answer to your question about re-cooling or re-cycling because we supply one long cycle, the boas here get cycled from about late November until mid-February, first a cooling-cycle, then cycled up again to norms. The weather is a factor, of course. Pairs respond on the down-cycle, on the up-cycle or even at mean low temps, depending upon subspecies and locality. In other words I don't think you can cool a boa or warm a boa for a few days or two weeks and call that a cycle. Just my opinion...

But.. I will offer this suggestion.. if your female is old enough and in good health but won't breed you can try placing her in with a pair that is breeding, many times that will stimulate changes in the female and she will get into a breeding cycle.
