sick gecko

kyla123 Dec 07, 2003 10:30 AM

HI, I have two leopard geckos that are sick. No one I know has any idea what is wrong. the geckos regurgitate anything that I feed them including silkworms. The geckos are about six months old and I got them in october. every thing seemed fine untill mid november. they have all of the proper lighting and for now I am feeding an electrolite solution. If any one has any info that could help I would really appreciate it.
thank you in advance

I'm really sorry to hear about your geckos. Have you taken them to a vet?

A big cause of regurgitation is improper temperatures and environment. What are the temps on the ground of your enclosure(not the air; surface temp on the ground)? You mention having 'proper lighting', but lighting other than ambient daylight is inconsequential in the health of your gecko. Temperatures are important, which is why most people use undertank heaters to try to reach a warm side of 88-90F.

Let's hear about your setup, temps, substrate material, etc. Have they ever been with other herps? Do you have any others in the house? Where did you get them from?

If they're not together now, keep them separate. You've probably already read it on here (hopefully), but if not, you need to quarantine any new arrivals for 90 days to keep from infecting any other animals in your collection.

my temps are at 87 on the warm side and 79 0n the cool side. they have a reptiglow 2.0 bulb for uvb. they are on exoterra desert sand. they were purchased from canadian captive bred and were together from day one. I have many other herps including snakes, chameleons, salamanders, some kind of baby tropical gecko and a savanna monitor. these are all located in a seperate room from the geckos. i am a member of the local herp society and no one has had any experiece with leopard geckos regurgitating

I would take them to a vet. Temps sound good, but they're a little young/small to be on sand, in my opinion. I've never had one regurgitate more than one meal, so I don't have any suggestions other than a vet. Good luck; I wish you the very best.

You really should take them to a vet. It's not worth losing them over this. It could be any number of problems. Regurg is not a problem in & of itself, but a secondary symptom of something else wrong. Please take them to the vet.
