My husband and I are upgrading the indoor house of our small Russian Tort Molly from an medium sized guinea pig cage to a large rubbermaid container next week. I didn't want to go through all the trouble putting her in a nice brand new clean cage if her vet tells me I have to throw it all out to get rid of her worms on Tuesday.
We had one major issue with this rubber bin arrangement as we have cats and dogs with free reign of the house and were worried about them getting to her. So my husband is going to modify the lid of the rubbermaid container. We are cutting out the top of it and installing chicken wire on the hole and adding additional holes for her lights and such. I think it will work pretty well and will give Molly much more room (even though she spends much of her day burried under the subtrate anyway)
Speaking of substrate... I was thinking of mixing a few different things together to put in her new house. I bought some Timothy hay, some Aspen chips, and I have a small amount of Reptibark left. Do you think this will be acceptable?
Is there anyway to add some sort of UTH? I am worried that with the house so cold this winter she doesnt get enough heat with just the UV lamp and the Heat bulb... specially in the larger container.
