Nose rubbing (general python advice needed)

Antegy Dec 07, 2003 02:04 PM

Hello all,

I posted this already in the Burmese forum, but I figured that it is a general enough question that someone here may also be able to help...

I have a 10' labyrinth burm who for the past month or so has been rubbing the glass door of his cage incessantly. He is in a Vision cage - the biggest one they offer. I keep it meticulously clean, and he's well fed (but not overfed). Lately I have noticed that his nose is beginning to look a little beat-up; and I can imagine that it doesn't feel very good for him. Beside that I'm guessing that he is stressing in some way which is making him do this in the first place.

Anyone have any advice on why he may be doing this - and also what I can do to help keep him from rubbing.

Any feedback is appreciated,
Thanks,
- Mark

Hi,
I had the same problem with my male super tiger. It is most likely because it is breeding season and he wants to find a female. I was unable to get him to stop no mater what I did(food, temp, humidity). I found the only way to get him to stop was to give him what he wanted, a girlfriend! It worked. I have him with my female normal and the rubbing on the glass has completely stopped. The only other suggestion I have would be to block off the area he is rubbing with some cardboard or something like that. Otherwise just keep a close eye on him and make sure the iritated area does not turn into something more serious like an infection(mouth rot). I hope this helps.
Lou
