female panther gravid?? PIC

justchams Dec 07, 2003 02:53 PM

Hello,

My female panther has been wondering on the bottom of the cage for some days now. She is not climbing at all and not basking a lot either. She is not really scratching the screen cage but she walks like in circles at the bottom a lot.

She has not been with a male. However her conduct shows some signs of looking for place to dig.

What do you guys think??. Also, can you tell anything by looking at the pic.

thanks

Hi-

What is her setup like? How big is it? How old is she? Any other chameleons or animals she can see? What are the temps in the cage?

Hi,

She is an adult, her setup, temps, lights, misting, and generally accepted requirements are ok. She might be seing another chameleon and that could be bothering her. I'll make sure this is not the case.

thanks

Give her a shot in an egg laying container. Female panthers especially adults that have never been with a male usually will lay infertile eggs at a certain point, unless there food is being cut back and caerfully "calorie counted." You've probably heard of the typical egg laying containers enough to know what I'm talking about right? Give it a shot and see what happens. Leave her alone for a day to do her thing.

My female panther who is gravid is pitch black with orange spots along her sides all day long. She was with a male so I don't know if fertile eggs makes a difference or not. Hope I helped.

thanks for all you rimput

anson do you have a pic of her?

anson Dec 07, 2003 10:35 PM

because her colors are textbook gravid coloration. Pitch black with the large spots down her sides. She is staying hidden most of the time and I do not want to disturb her so I will try to get a photo to post if I can do so without stressing her out.
She looks like a completely different animal than before she was gravid. Acts like it too.

Anson-

Gravid females will NOT show black with orange/pink/purple spots all the time, only when she is stressed. This can be from her seeing another chameleon or animal or even you. If she is displaying these colors all the time I would recommend you moving her cage if you cant seem to find the problem. You do not want her under heavy stress while she is gravid. Hope this helps!

what about her colors when she sleeps?
I guess the spots fade away and she turns into a nice peach color...

She is peach when she is asleep
Sorry it is taking long to answer I keep losing my computer when I am reinstalling programs that were lost when it crashed (picture frame shop programs) so I have been up and running one day and down the next.
