If you can't feed a Sav mice the you should not keep one end of discusion. I am guessing this is to be your first monitor and I would recomend ackies. They don't get as big as Savs but this will wind up being a good thing. They can live their whole life on crickets. They do cost more money, but in the long run they will save you money as they are captive bred and will be in better shape that a wild caught Sav which will need to see a vet right off to be safe. I have kept both Savs and Ackies and there is no comparison. The bottom line here is start with a captive bred monitor, it will save you tons of trouble and possibly a dead monitor. (Dispite what you may see on the classifieds there are no captive bred Savs people like to twist the truth to make a buck)
good luck with whatever you decide.

Monitors need whole animals to eat, alot of space, big cages, deep digable substrate, and also live insects for some. If you need your moms permission and she doesnt want rodents (and probably not live insects either in her house)then wait until you can get one in your own home someday. Do alot of research and learn their proper care, be set up ahead of time for the animal.
