If I get a roundtail horned lizard, what kind of substrate should I get? Should I use gravel or just lots of good sized rocks?

You need to use sand as the substrate. The RTHL likes to bury at night and during inactive periods. Small amounts of sand are purposely ingested which could be for extra mineral consumption or to aid in digestion, maybe Lester has an answer as to why HLs purposly ingest sand. Rocks should be placed under the heat light to provide basking areas.

Thanks, and does it matter what kind of rocks I use?

Should I use lots of rocks? And large or small rocks?

I would scatter 2 to 4 rocks at least twice as big as the HLs you have.
