rippleyandnemo Dec 07, 2003 08:25 PM

My female res tried to bite me as I was getting her out of her tank. I have had her almost 4 months and this has never happened before. when i got her out she opened her mouth and was trying to get my hand she also made a hissing noise as if she was aggravated. i put her back and tried again a little later and she did the same thing. she does not however seem aggrasive to my other res. what could be wrong

for whatever reason your turtle just doesn't want to be "messed with".i have a number of turtles, most of the time they are calm(except the snappers!),occasionally somebody gets "grumpy".it'll pass.don't worry about it.

What may be wrong is that your turtle may be a reptile, or a wild animal, living in captivity. Reptiles kept as pets are never really tame, although they do get accustomed to their surroundings. There is always the possibility to be bitten. It doesnt mean theres anything wrong with the turtle. A turtle that bites is actually a good thing.
