How important

How important is it that your cham not drink water from faucet. What are possible effects of this. He has been for awhile, but I am just wondering. If it can be a problem, what kind of water cleaning substances should I buy and what place has the best deals?

We use two systems. One is just to put the water in a gallon jug and let it set 24 hours before using it. Been doing this for over 5 years. The other is just a simple filter you put on your sink faucet which takes out most unwanted chemicals. The only water that is not recommended for animals is R.O (reverse osmosis) The reason being is RO water has no minerals left in it and it will draw them out of the body of the animal drinking it and then the animal will pass them. RO is mainly used for fish.

I've used water from the faucet to fill my drip bags for over 5 years with no problems. Depending on how water is in your area it's fine. Some choose to use bottled water.
I wouldn't suggest adding anything to the water..
