burned feet no appetite= one worried mom

irthangl20 Dec 07, 2003 10:46 PM

I have been in Hawaii for the past 4 months so I left my leo with a friend. He did a great job taking care of her until the last week. I'm not totally sure what happened but I suspect that there was no (or very little) air circulation under the tank, because I have never had this problem (i leave the uth on 24-7). He accidentally left the UTH on for longer than usual and by the time he got to it, my leo's back feet were burned to a crisp! Well by the time I got back they seemed to be about half healed. All the scab has peeled off except for the toes. I have been soaking her in warmish water for about 10 minutes at a time a couple times a week. Is there anything else I can do for her??

Also for as long as I have had my gecko she has never eaten much, about 10 mealies a week. I have had her for almost two years now and her tail is as fat as can be. I figure the temp is probably too low in the tank (I havent gotten a new thermometer yet since I just got back and I wouldnt really trust the reading on my old one, seems kinda wore out). So my question is, if my leo has a fat tail and appears healthy in every way is her low appetite really a problem?? (BTW she also ate like this while being watched by my friend who obviously managed to keep the tank pretty warm since she burned her feet on it.)

Thanks for your help!
Dana

A dilute concentration of Nolvosan makes a good wound wash. I don't know how severe the burn was but to be sure it doesn't become infected, I would soak the feet in an aniseptic like the one mentioned.

This can be purchased from ProExotics.com or a generic version is available from BeanFarm.com

Good luck with the little guy!
