(Lampropeltis getula nigrita)

I got a Mexican Black Kingsnake today. Yes, I'm bragging. Proud to have her. She's damn near brand new. About 10" or so. Maybe a little more.

I've read great things about this species. Aside from their stunning simplistic beauty, I've learned that they make great pets overall.

My one question (for today) is how large should I expect "her" to get? I've read anywhere from 3' to 7'. That's quite a difference. Also, does one sex get larger than the other?

After she settles in, I'll post some pictures. Don't want to overwhelm her on her first day.

Hey Marcus, glad your happy with your new Mexican Black. I have a male that's around 40 inchs. They average around 3 1/2 feet, some growing larger. Check out the link for a good site that has size and pictures of adult King and Milksnakes.

The Nigritis are one of my all-time favorites. I've never seen one over 4 feet though. I believe the claim about them getting up to 7 feet is erroneous. That would be cool though!

I'm already enjoying her. She's very curious.

Do they get darker as they get older? Mine is very dark but closer to a dark dark brown or brownish/blackish color.

Will she get flat out blacK?

My MBK is solid Black! She has a tiny bit of white under her chin. She is so cute. Attached ia a pic of her.
