Hi,

New to this forum but not to Kingsnake. I am in the market for a digital camera and would like to know what other's use. Most of my pix will be of very small critters (leaf chameleon's, Lepidoptera, tarantula, other arachnids and close up of many mini-beasts and plants/flowers.

The only one I have looked at was the Nikon CoolPix4300 for about $400.00. Any and all suggestions and experience appreciated!

Thanks,
lele

Hello, I use a Minolta Dimage 5. This camera has great optics, and lots of features and controls. It is no longer made, due to the "low" resolution of 3.14 Megapixels. It's bigger brother, the Dimage 7, is still made. It has 5 Megapixels resolution, and the same great optics. I am getting the 3600 HSD hotshoe mounted flash. For serious macro photography, Minolta makes a macro ring light that mounts on the 49mm filter threads. One nice feature I use, that is on both the 5 & 7, is the flip up electronic veiwfinder. By rotating the veiwfinder up 90 degrees, low to the ground, and macro shots can be taken much more easily than with traditional weiwfinders that make you lay on the ground to get low shots. To read a review of the Dimage 7, just type Dimage 7 in a search engine, like Yahoo! or Google, and pick a reveiw site. I like Steve's digicam's. You can find most any camera model there. Good Luck.
