Pregnent Skink

JennaAl Feb 08, 2003 10:53 PM

I am taking care of a pregant blue tonge skink. She is currently in a enviroment where she is with the male. Is this good? she has been pregnant before but re-absorbed her babies, my job is to make sure this does not occour agian. What are the correct conditions for food, temperature, habitat and placement of the male? I am feeding her lettus and cat food. Is this correct and how often for her? thanks so much for your time, ALison and Jenna

Her needs for protein should also be higher than when she's not gravid, so make sure she's getting quality food. By the way, cat food is generally NOT quality food for a blue-tongue. Also, what makes you think she's pregnant? And without knowing the specific size of the enclosure, I'd say that it's just safer not to keep her with the male.
Just some random advice; I hope it helps.

Cat food has way too high a protein level. Use low protein (Fro Older Dogs) dog food or Scambled eggs. Offer grapes for fruit.

i checked out the protein levels on both cat and dog foods in supermarkets and pet stores and it seems that all the cat foods i found have equal amounts in them. Even against the senior dog food.
