MHD does not look well

welshdragon Dec 08, 2003 01:09 PM

It has been a while since I have posted, looking for any help or advice.

My son has a MHD (Beckham) he has had it about 10 months I think it was fully grown when we got it! Last few days he has been very lethargic, not really moving and not eating. We force fed him some mealworms yesterday and he ate 3. Sometimes he will only have one eye open and his lips look like they are a little red in the corners.

We had family in for the last few days and my son has not always been at the house, an elderly relative had his room and sometimes the light was not turned on and the water was not changed. A few days ago we cleaned out the waterfall and put some fresh water in and he drank a lot of water.

This time of year some males get a bit lethargic and sort of slow down. Unless he starts looking thin I don't really like to force feed since they can and do go off feed sometimes. If he isn't looking dehydrated I would give a small amount of pediolyte or gatorade once a day and watch for signs of illness such as loose stool or protruding hips.

If you have had him 10 months I would also consider having a fecal done just to rule out anything organic.

Keep us posted!
