A couple questions......

murphylee03 Dec 08, 2003 04:49 PM

I have seen alot of posts about BD's and water. Do they enjoy playing in the water? Also, Murph is about 6 months old and has only shed once. I know this doesn't sound normal becuase my Veileds, anoles and fence lizards all shed like once every 2 weeks for quite a while. Murphy is normal sized (7&1/2 inches w/ tail) and eats VERY well. But when she did shed it stuck on her and wouldn't come off. I had to mist her with water and then just wait.

well i woulnt be worried but u could try sokin it in water and make sure its cot rocks or sumpin to rub on

She has a huge rock formation to rub on and what not but she just doesn't shed! I just am worried something- I don't know what might be wrong. I have heard of babies shedding once a week, and at this rate she'll have shed 2x a year!

Some dragons really enjoy the water, and some do not and will go nuts to jump out during bath time. I give mine a bath in warm to the touch and shoulder height water to wash them and let them play or drink from the faucet if they would like. I was curious how your dragons appetite is? How much is he eating? The reason I ask is for 6 months 7 1/2 inches just does not sound right, and with the lack of growth the dragons won't shed. It's kinda like when they stretch their skin and grow they shed the old.

She eats PLENTY! I feed her JurassiDiet pellets soaked in 100% fruit juice 2x a day, romaine lettuce, red grapes, apples, carrots, & crickets mixed in with the JurassiDiet. I have some new food on the way also.( Dragon Yummies and Cactus fruit flavored food by Ecotherm) She has plenty of virety in her diet and I don't underfeed her, I let her eat until she is full. Also I bought her from a company I had good expirience with before with my Veileds, Newts and Frogs, but I am wondering if she was a "misnamed" animal. The web site said "Bearded Dragons" but what are the possibilities that she could be a Rankins (sp?) Dragon? becuase they are normally smaller than a BD, right?

Mattman Dec 08, 2003 08:03 PM

The Rankins dragon came to my mind when I read his size and age and that he eats a lot. The pattern, head shape, and beard is slightly different then the Vitticeps. You might have gotton a Rankins. I'm not sure how they're shedding schedule is compared to a larger pogona vitticeps though, sorry. Good Luck with the little guy though, as long as he is eating and clear of parisites is the main thing for a healthy pet beardie.

Do you (or anybody else) have a picture of a yong Rankins compared to an inland???

Mattman Dec 09, 2003 08:11 AM

If you go to sundial reptile they breed a few rankins and have a few pics of them. Just copy & paste

http://www.sundialreptile.com/rankinsbabies2003.jpg

Also if you look in the photo gallery under lizards and bearded dragons on page #13 this morning, might go to page 14 if more pics are put in today. There is a pic of three nice Rankins posted there by paulmorlock who posts here from time to time. He might have pics of adults side by side or might be able to point out tell tale differences other then size, and head shape. Hope these pics give you a bit of an idea. GTood Luck.
