What's the deal with PASTELS? Is this a DOMINANT trait? help...

laurachel Dec 08, 2003 09:32 PM

Hey,

What is the deal w/ pastels, do their offspring all come out pastel? I've heard they are a dominant trait, what does this mean in breeding?

Thanks!

Steve

Pastels are a co-dominant trait...others would argue its an incomplete dominant trait but most people know what you mean when you say co-dominant. If you think about it Pastels are the heterozygous form of a Super Pastel which is the homozygous form...it is just a visual het. When breeding a Pastel to a normal you will produce and average of 50% Pastels and 50% normal. Hope this helps.
