Mike T question cat litter pan question

beardedragon Dec 08, 2003 09:42 PM

Mike,
I see that you are using a very large pan for breeding your rats. I'm trying to find a larger tub but havn't found a suitable tub yet. I was wondering if you could let me nkow what type of bin you are using a where did you get it( I'm located in Canada also). Any help would be great.

Another question. If my search for a half decent tub. I can't seem to get morter mixing pans anywhere in my area (Home hardware, Home depot, building box, ect). I have a cat litter pan measuring 16"x22"x7" and to me at least it doesn't seem it would fit 1.2 or 1.3 rats with babies. I perfer to run either 1.3 or 1.5 rats and would love to keep this up. Any help would be great. I've been browsing the forums for a while now and the tubs I really like are the IRIS and morter pans. Anything similar or available in Canada. Maybe there a way to get morter pans shiped across the border from somewhere.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
Actually I don't yet have the mortor mixing pans. I was just thinking about following the setup Dan had posted and this required mortor mixing tubs. I will try and go to home depot today and look around and see if I can find them in my area and I'll let you know as soon as I do.
Take care,
Mike

Though I haven't looked for any of those mixing tub things myself, but thought I should mention what I am currently using for my rats. Being in Canada as well, you shouldn't have any problems finding these tubs. I use the large Rubbermaid Roughneck jumbo totes. They are 151.4L (40gal) tubs measuring 36.8"x21.2"x18.6". I currently have two very large jumbo rat males in it (500 and 600g) and only recently remmoved my female, so she can have her pups without any of the males thinking it's lunch time. You can easily keep a 1:3 group in these tubs. Maybe even 1:4 if your male are not as huge as mine.

Thanks for the help. I accually use a rough tote and run 16 with babies with no problem. They work well but are too big and bulky to use in a rack.
Mike T any info on the cement tubs would be great. Hopefully you can find them. I've had no luck.

No luck at home depot. A freind of mine is in the construction business and I'll call him tomorrow to see if he has any advice.
