Nail Clipping?

AzLunchbox Dec 08, 2003 09:57 PM

Hey everyone....my 12 inch beardie (Jimmy) has been growing enough that his claws of course have been growing too....i've notice that lateley when i handel him i end up getting little scratches all over my hands.......

so i was wondering what i should do?
Should i clip his nails? and if so how?
Should i put something special into his cage that will wear his claws down some from walking?

any other tips?
thanks

but it won't last long. use a nail clipper not a scissors. trim only the tip or you will cause bleeding. In case you accidently go to far you might want to have something to help stop the bleeding.

You can clip the nails a bit. You just want to take off the pointed tip right where it is smaller then the nail base. You can use flour in a pinch or an animal coagulant powder to help if you go to low, but if you just take off the point there should be no blood at all. Flagstone or even a garden block in the cage will help in keeping the nails trimmed without having to clip. In the wild it is the rocks and hard rough ground that keeps the nails trimmed down.
