What should i do???

RedQuake Dec 08, 2003 11:21 PM

Hi all. Just wanted to see what your opinions are on this. I need to move Dot and Abby to their own tanks. I have two 10 gallon tanks i could easily move them into now however..... I would like to only move them once to reduce stress so i've been holding out for the money to buy two 20 gal long tanks from Petsmart. BUT and heres the thing.......the tanks with screen tops cost $89 and change so after taxes i'm looking at $100.00 per tank. Is that worth the $$$ or can i build them 12"x12"x30" enclosures for less than that? I'd really like to have sliding glass doors for easier access too. You know me, i like to go all out on my geckos so sticking them in a 10 gallon just stinks! plus i built the unit to hold 30" tanks. Does anyone have any good plans for an enclosure with sliding doors?? if so can i use them??

Thanks for all your help

$89 for a 20 gallon long tank? Are you sure? That's a lot. I got a 40 gallon for that price. At the Petco & Petsmart out here (Reno,NV) 20 gal long glass terrariums inlcuding sliding screen lid run about $30-40. If you buy the aquarium, it's about $20 plus another $7 for the screen top.

Yep i'm sure. They sell the terrarium with screen top as a kit with stuff inside the tank, lights food samples background pic. They dont' sell the tanks by themselves. I wish they did, then they'd be cheaper. I've looked around and been to every store even travelling to Toronto to find 20 gal long tanks......no one has them. Only way i can get them is special order. The stores do have tons of 36" long tanks with screen tops but i didnt' build my unit to hold that size tank.....something i so regret now. As it is the unit is 8 ft long just to hold 3 20 gal long tanks (30" long) in a row (2 rows of them). I really need to post some pics hehe I'd love to build individual units for each gecko with sliding front doors and the UTH and light built right in so that they can be stacked, but i am so overwelmed with stuff right now that trying to come up with the design is just to much

find more pet stores in your area that are NOT chain stores...i have no problem finding 40 gallon tanks for $50 at some local stores here, you just gotta shop around

I agree it is way over priced. Honestly i've been everywhere looking for 20 gal long tanks but they dont' seem to make them. If they do its a special order tank. I did get my 40 gal and my 22 gal for cheap but i don't have the space to house 7 leos in those size tanks.....Length is 36". The 20 gal long tanks are 12" high 12" deep and 30" long. They used to be cheaper, at least they were when i bought my other two (Boo and Lily's homes) but they upped the price. They sell them as kits with a light bulb food samples (bearded dragon which is stupid cause that tank is to small for an adult beardie), a background etc. I did find cheaper tanks at other places and i've been looking alot even Toronto, that were 36" long. If i had known that the prices were going to go up i would have built my gecko unit to hold those tanks but i didn't. 32" spaces is all i made so that it would fit 30" tanks. Hopefully its just a seasonal price increase and they will drop again after Christmas.

Yeah I know which setup your talking about, and its 89$ here also. I was able to find a nice 20L tank with screen top at a local herp store. It is made by All-Glass Aquariums, I included a link at the bottom for the tank. If you scroll to the bottom, go to the home page, then scroll down on the home page, there should be a "store locator" button. This is what I used to find the shop where I bought my tank. Hopefully there will be a store near you.

Hope this helps!
