Pebbles arm is still really swollen...

georgio Dec 09, 2003 12:23 AM

Hey everyone. Pebbles arm is not doing so well. It has been REALLY swollen for a week and a half and she barely walks on it. I have taken her to the vet twice. The first time she got an antiinflamatory injection and the second she received x-rays (which came back negative...no fracture) and an oral anti inflamatory. The antiinflamatory stuff does not seem to be working at all. Her arm is so swollen it's hard to the touch. I really do not know what to do and my vet does not seem to know what it is after getting the x-rays back. Has anyone had any experience with swollen limbs in their reptiles? If so what was the diagnosis? How long did it last? I feel so bad for her and the whole situation is hard with christmas coming around and funds dwindling (she was not cheap and the vet bills have already added on $180). If anyone can offer any advice I would be incredibly thankful. Hope everyone elses animals are doing better than Pebbles :~(.

Hey Peter-
Is it a possible case of Gout?
I assume that your vet ( and you)has already pondered all possible alternatives.
What about soft tissue injury ( ligaments, tendons, etc..)
they would still appear negative on an xray.
Does she show any improvement after the anti inflamatory injections?
Does the injury seem to be localized to a certain part of her arm?
Sorry to hear about this. It sucks when the animals can't tell you what is going on....

If its not an inflammation, it can be a nematode infection, gout, fbrous osteodystrophy, just to name some possible reasons to adress.

Good luck

Hi Georgio, there are many things as people are saying Gout, an injury, I hope you find the problem real soon, so Pebbles can go without pain. And you can save money, as well, :0)

I am by no means a vet or anything related to the veterinary field but here is my 2 cents...

Swollen limbs can be a symptom of MBD. Did the vet check the blood calcium and phosphorus levels? You said you had an x-ray which showed no fractures but did the vet look at the bone density? Just throwing something out. Hope you get a definitive answer and poor Pebbles recovers quickly. Best regards.

Hi, I'm new to the site and i'm still trying to figure out everything with my little guy. My problem is is that my little guy doesn't move to much, his backleft leg is not being used(walked on) and he looks very latharjik(sp?) Now I have been feeding him a mix of bukcoy and garden salad.(prepackaged) I gave him a couple of crix and he turned pale(white) for a couple of dayz. His colour is back and he's fat. The last time I weighed him he was 153.3grams and 11.5 inches. I think his coat is pealing and his temp is at 90F humi is at 20% dry.

Now my question for you is did you hear anything about pebbles leg cuz I think I have the same problem? Is there any thing that I can do to get him goin?? Please reply even if you don't have answers. Thankx

his temp is at 90 ? u have everything wrong right there, his temps should be 80-90 on the cool side 100 on the warm side and there basking spot right under the light should be from 120 -130 they like it real hot , your temps are too low
