Methyl paraben powder

Randy27 Dec 09, 2003 01:41 AM

Does anyone know where to get some of this stuff at a decent price or even in bulk quantities? I've been using white vinegar for quite some time now as a mold inhibitor for my ff media, but I'd like to try this out instead....I absolutely can't STAND the smell of vinegar anymore!

I buy mine at DocFrugal.com, it is also $44 for 1 kg, which should last you a long time. They are a great place to get a lot of different things like petri dishes and other misc equipment.

You can also try methylane blue or something like. They sell them at fish stores to help stop fungus and stuff from growing on fish eggs. Just dont spill some on your hands or they will be blue for a few days Oh the name is probably misspelled its too cold right now for me to run into my garage to check the correct spelling.

I'm thinking I'll buy a whole kg, I have to make about 15 cultures every few weeks, so I'll probably need it. Does anyone know how much to use (i.e. parts per gallon, liter, cup, etc??).

Regarding Methyl paraben powder, I sell it for $9.50 per 8 oz. oor 226 grams. Or, $16.50 per pound. I'm a little cheaper then those other guys.

I still put a little vinegar in my cultures in additional to the Methyl paraben, the flies seem to prefer the acidity and the cultures seem to get going faster.
If you have any question, just let me know
