Triblonotus gracilis Incubation

karin27 Dec 09, 2003 02:33 AM

I'm wondering if anyone knows the proper humidity levels for incubating T. gracilis eggs.

I've found my first egg today from my pair, and I've put it in cypress mulch in a tupper ware container. temps for the egg is at about 78 F.

also, is shining a light through the egg an accurate way of predicting fertility?

Thanks

We always leave the egg with the female in her nest box (which contains unmilled sphagnum). The male and female take turns guarding the egg. They take about 90 days to hatch. As soon as the egg hatches the female lays another one that day. Ours have consistently done this for nearly 10 years.

Our enclosure is 75-80 F with a high humidity level.

Thank you for the info! i never thought about leaving them in with them, i wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do or not.

but actually, she has been digging around in the cypress mulch substrate a lot more lately, but on the opposite side of the tank where she had laid last time. I wonder if this is a response from her, if perhaps she thinks that her previous egg laying spot was unsafe since the egg is gone.

her next egg will definately be left alone and we'll see what happens then.

thanx!
