Does anyone have any experience keeping whiptails. I caught two whiptails down in the southern utah desert in a slaught canyon. I brought them back and placed them in a medium rubbermaid container with papper toweling two hide boxes a water dish and a plastic vine. Theyve already eaten two pinkies and i dont know how much to feed them, How large the water bowl should be, am i keeping them right what else can i feed them. is there any care sheets. If you can please respond to cvonrosen@hotmail.com or even better reply on the forum.
ps... i keep them outside because its pretty warm weather.

Hey,

I have experience with keeping checkered whiptails and racerunners. A 10 gallon tank would be fine for 2 nice sized adults. I use sand as a substrate, a make a hide box from a frame of twigs and tehn put mud all over the frame like adobe. set it in the sun and it will dry hard as rock. And just place it in the sand. They also need a water dish, at least one desert looking shrub, a sick or rock to sit on while sunning. Now my tank i have rigged to fit right up in the window so i dont need a heat lamp, i just let the sun heat the cage. And walk by from time to time just to make sure they are not overheating. However, they can take very hot temps, and love it. From my personal experience with these lizards they eat crickets, moths, grubs, spiders, and i have never tryed waxworms but i'm sure that would work great. And they should be fed once or twice a week. If you are not gonna put the tank in the window than just use a heat lamp with a 75 watt bulb in it. If you need more info just email me at wchuntsman@msn.com. I hope i have helped. THANKS, WILLIAM H. AND THE GREEN PINE MUSEUM.

P.S.
There will be a new Green Pine Museum site coming real soon that is better!

Yes they are a lot like racers. They are in the family of coachwhips, and they are related to racers. I would do just about the same for a racer as i would a whipsnake. Just make sure they have a good heat source on them for 12 hours a day. Email for more info if you need it. WILLIAM H. AND THE GREEN PINE MUSEUM.
