Question about shedding skin=

Gilbery007 Dec 09, 2003 10:42 AM

Hi all thx for your posts about my pic of boxer. Last night he shed his skin he ate 2 crix then i could hear funny noises from his hide like he was scratching, i ignored it at first then it got real loud so i took his hide out peered in.Only to see him shedding his skin i thought i best leave him be so i did. I want to know how often do u find that they havent shed there skin properly??? Will i ever encounter having to soak him because he doesnt succesfully shed??? I mist his warm moist hide every time i can when he's out of it cause it dries so quickly if i keep this up will i ever have to soak him??? Sorry it's so long Thx tho guys/gals Gilbery007

hehe yeah the funny scratching noises were probably him rubbing against the entrance of his humid hide to scratch some of his skin off my leo does that- it's kinda cute hehe~ and yes, it's best to leave them while they are shedding.

and since i've had my leo, i've only had two problems with her shedding... since i've had her, she may have shed about 6 or 8 times. the 1st time she shed was the day after i brought her home - the guy i got her from didn't even have a humid hide and the only hide he had was in the middle of the tank -- not even on top of the UTH. i re-did her home while my friend was handling her and put her back in ... she did a ton of exploring and finally shed the next night. she had some extra skin on her toes - so i had to soak her a couple times and rub it off with a q-tip. it wasn't too difficult esp. since she JUST shed. the 2nd time was... she was shedding even though the skin on her nose didn't look like it was gonna shed... so she shed everything off - and even got the tip of her tail by accident.. so now it looks kinda weird... u can tell she tried 2 do something 2 it. then a couple days later her nose was white coz it was trying to shed. i rubbed it with a damp qtip and she kept licking it too - it didn't come off...but later that night, i watched her rubbing her nose against the wall of the humid hide and it came off hehe~

so i guess successful shedding depends on your humid hide... you might encounter one or two problems... but probably nothing scary - unless of course, the unshed skin is on his tail! other than that, it isn't too hard to get the extra skin off damp qtips, luke-warm soakings, and tweezers my humid hide dries quickly as well, but because the water is evaporating, it creates the humidity they need to shed. i don't keep spraying when it dries up and marlene still sheds normally

I was woken up this morning by the scratching sound. It sounded like the UTH was shorting out or something, and worried me quite a bit. I couldn't figure out what the noise was until my leo pretty much rolled out of her warm hide. She was struggling with some skin on her tummy and in her attempt to peel it, lost her balance and rolled out into the open.

She didn't seem to care that I was watching and just kept pulling. It was quite interesting to watch. She was pulling really hard and rubbing against her fake rock cave.

Make sure you break out the digicam tonight. Her/his colours will be the best they're going to be for the next 2 weeks or so.

And make sure he/she has a humid hide that is, in fact, humid. I moistened mine's humid hide this morning just to make sure she could get her feet damp (although she'd probably just climb in her water bowl if she really wanted to soak).

Enjoy the bright colours.
