Creation of Snow Leopards

ghostwolf Dec 09, 2003 12:49 PM

How exactly were Snows created? Were pastels just bred at lighter and lighter phases until they were completely washed out? I haven't been able to find much info on them and thought maybe someone would know. Thanks a bunch.

According to the information on Albey Scholl's Best of 2002 page(near the bottom) it seems that he thinks the snows originated from the Eublepharis macularius fasciolatus subspecies of leopard gecko. Most images i've seen of them still have some yellow coloring and thus selective breeding for a pure white background has been necessary to produce the higher quality snows that are now being produced. All of this should just be taken as speculation though since I've never heard any actual accounts of the origins of the snow morph. I tend to agree with Albey in thinking that this is the most likely case however.

Thanks for the info! It doesn't surprise me then that I don't see many Snows. Beautiful animals though.
